Tin Punch Ornament

· 6:30 PM–8:00 PM

Come learn the basic technique of tin punching and gain an appreciation for its historical and cultural roots. Leave with a finished handmade ornament! This program is a hands-on craft workshop where you will create traditional tin punch ornaments using small hammers, nails, and canning lids. The format will be guided but flexible, beginning with a brief introduction to the history of tin punching, followed by a demonstration of basic techniques such as pattern tracing and safe hammering. You will then create your own design or follow a pattern and leave with a finished handmade ornament. The program also offers a relaxing, tactile experience that supports mindfulness and creative expression. Tin punching has roots in multiple cultural traditions, including early American colonial crafts (influenced by European metalworking traditions such as German and English folk art) and Mexican folk art (hojalata), where punched tin is used for decorative and religious items. This program provides an opportunity to highlight how similar techniques appear across cultures, encouraging you to explore patterns or designs inspired by different traditions and to appreciate the shared human practice of decorative craftsmanship. This program is intended for adults. Space is limited: register in advance to reserve your spot and receive reminders. Registration will guarantee your seat until the event begins.
